About Wendy Price
We all at some time experience problems which are difficult to deal with alone. We cannot always speak to friends or relatives, which is why talking things through with a Counsellor may help.
It is not surprising that in today’s climate at least 1 in 4 people will suffer from mental health issues. We live and work under continuing pressure, leaving little time for relaxation. Some people may feel that Stress, Depression or Anxiety means that they are weak or a failure, This certainly is not the case. We all respond to different situations in different ways. How we respond may depend on our experience of life, how parents and care givers responded in the past and what other pressures are in your life at that time.
My Experience
I have been practising as a Counsellor since 2002. practised as a Counsellor in a GP surgery for two years before entering into Private Practice. During this time, I have worked with organisations who refer their employees for Counselling, this may be because they are suffering with work-related stress, bullying at work or finding it difficult to deal with constant changes and increased workload. The organisations I have worked with include Neath & Port Talbot Council, Swansea Council, Neath & Port Talbot College, South Wales Police and NPT Homes. I also work with individuals who self refer, or patients who have been recommended by their GP. I also work with Couples.
During this time I have had experience in working with a wide range of issues such as Depression, OCD, Anxiety, Stress, Relationship Issues, Abuse, Bereavement, PTSD, Assertiveness, Anger , Eating Disorders,, Seasonal Affective Disorder , Post Natal Depression, Miscarriage & Abortion and Low Self Esteem.
How I Work
I work as an Integrated Therapist (which means that I work with more than one psychological theory). The main theory I work with is Cognitive Behaviour Therapy(CBT). CBT looks at Cognitive(The way we think) has an effect on the way we feel. The sessions help you identify you negative ways of thinking so that they can be challenged and you can then learn to think in a more positive or realistic way about situations.
I work holistically which means that we look at nutrition, relaxation and exercise all things that the client can do to help themselves get to where they want to be. During the sessions we concentrate on what the problem is and the information and /or tools the client will need to deal with the situation more effectively.
Couples Counselling
It is not surprising that there has been an increase in relationship breakdown over the past few years.
We all have been affected by the recession, wages have been frozen whilst food, utilities, petrol etc have all increased, the availability of credit has been minimized, all of which puts pressure on a relationship.
Each of us will deal with pressure in a different way. Men tend to see things in a practical way and
women emotionally which is why we don’t always see eye to eye!
Working with a couple can have its challenges. The Counsellor’s role is to facilitate, allowing each person to talk without interruption for the other party so that they know they can be heard.
Clinical Supervision
As a member of the BACP I am required to have a minimum of 1.5 hours of Clinical Supervision per month. I meet with a Consultant Psychologist from Cardiff. Clinical Supervision ensures that the Counsellor is working safely and ethically. It also gives the Counsellor the space to discuss any concerns about the cases that they are dealing with and that they work within their area of experience and expertise. and reflect upon their practice. The client name and/or any description which would make it easy to identify the client is withheld ensuring confident
